About us

The Horn of Africa Journal of Science and Innovation (HAJSI) is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering innovation to address the unique challenges and opportunities within the East African region. Our scope encompasses a wide range of disciplines, reflecting the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary scientific inquiry.

EAJSI focuses on research that directly impacts the East African context, including but not limited to:

  • Environmental Sustainability: Studies on climate change, natural resource management, conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices tailored to the East African environment.
  • Public Health: Research addressing endemic diseases, healthcare delivery systems, and innovative public health interventions to improve health outcomes in the region
  • Energy Solutions: Exploration of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy policies to meet the growing energy needs of East Africa.
  • Water Resources: Research on water management, purification technologies, and sustainable utilization of water resources to address water scarcity and quality issues.
  • Economic Development: Studies on economic policies, entrepreneurship, and technological innovations that drive economic growth and development in East Africa.
  • Education and Capacity Building: Research on educational methods, capacity building, and training programs to enhance scientific literacy and research capabilities in the region.

While our primary focus is on issues pertinent to Horn of Africa, HAJSI also welcomes contributions that advance general scientific knowledge and understanding across various disciplines, including:

  • Basic and Applied Sciences: Innovative research in physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering that contributes to the global body of scientific knowledge.
  • Interdisciplinary Research: Studies that integrate multiple scientific disciplines to address complex problems and generate holistic solutions.
  • Technological Innovations: Research on the development and application of new technologies that have the potential to transform industries and societies.
  • Social Sciences and Humanities: Exploration of the societal, cultural, and ethical implications of scientific advancements and technological change.

HAJSI is committed to addressing the historical and ongoing disparities in the distribution of scientific knowledge and research capabilities. Our journal aims to:

  • Amplify Local Voices: Provide a platform for East African researchers to publish their work and contribute to global scientific discussions.
  • Foster Collaboration: Encourage partnerships between local researchers and international experts to share knowledge and resources.
  • Challenge Intellectual Colonialism: Promote diverse perspectives and challenge the dominance of a few global centers in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge.

HAJSI adheres to rigorous peer-review standards to ensure the quality and integrity of published research. We strive to support our authors through constructive feedback and guidance, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in scientific research.

We aim to make scientific knowledge accessible to a wider audience, including policymakers, educators, practitioners, and the general public. By disseminating research findings broadly, we seek to inform decision-making, inspire innovation, and foster a deeper understanding of science and its role in society.

In short, Horn of Africa Journal of Science and Innovation (HAJSI) is dedicated to bridging the gap between global scientific advancements and local needs. By focusing on the specific challenges and opportunities in East Africa and embracing the broader inquiry of scientific knowledge, we aspire to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive scientific community. Join us in our mission to advance science, drive innovation, and create a sustainable and prosperous future for East Africa and beyond.
